To get much more experience how and when to trigger AA from operational systems with real world hazard events so we get real world evidence and feedback to adapt the way we use trigger models.

A small sprout of pumpkin. We have been talking and trying things for a long time having a future with a big yield in mind. Now it is time to sprout and slowly set steps in operational systems to get real world experience and to use that experience to get knowledge on what fertilizer we need to make AA grow into a grown-up plant providing large pumpkins.

In 5 years, we will have doubled the number of countries with AA plans and funds in place and there will be a number of countries where governments and all agencies have joint triggers with coordinated early action.

A walnut: it’s a hard nut to crack, but once you open it there are a lot of benefits –like Early Action Protocols and triggers, which are difficult to set up, but once they’re approved, you can get funds to act early and save lives.

Güisquil or Chayote (Sechium edule): it is a vegetable that represents anticipatory action because the plant creates guides, so that its climbing stems remain attached to some object at the top, with which the fruits are not in direct contact with the ground and thus avoid damage to the plants fruits because of humidity, also keeping the fruits up high prevents rodents from causing damage.

My vision for Anticipatory Action in the next 5 years?
Increased focus on multi-hazards, intersectionality, and cascading impacts, expanded to include many non-weather events, and with power, resources, and decision making in the hands of those most impacted.

Which fruit/ vegetable represents Anticipatory Action for you and why?
Cacao fruit: it can be viewed as complex, and sometimes bitter and hard to swallow, with lots of work up front to translate into something useable. But then: it becomes a powerful remedy, universally enticing, and carries many lessons of adapting to climate change, strengthening resilience through cooperation with other actors in its environment, and reminding of the power of acting with precision, at the right moment.
